Where Will Ron Paul Supporters Go?

Paul’s internet army could easily split up into disaffected factions if he doesn’t endorse another candidate.

Ron Paul Ends Campaign

The man who made libertarianism cool to liberals ends his presidential bid.

Man Behind the Ron Paul Money Bombs

Spotlight on Ron Paul

Libertarian Republican presidential aspirant Ron Paul is in the spotlight again, and this time it is not about a blimp. The congressman’s campaign racked in just under $6 million in online donations in a single day, shattering the record raised by a presidential candidate in a 24 hour period, and possibly surpassing the fourth quarter fund raising of all the presidential candidates.

How did this and earlier money bombs happen? Here is the man behind the magic, Trevor Lyman.

Now with a $6 million haul, the $6 Million Dollar Man comparisons are unstoppable. Below is the nuttiest.

Oh, and in case you were wondering about the blimp…

And what of the grass root support of the Republican front runner? I’m a bit skeptical if being in the spotlight would help the sinking campaign of Rudolph Giuliani, the double lights just seem to cast him in a different light.

Ron Paul Jettisons Iraq War

Iraq war forced to walk the plank.

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has turned the Iraq war into jetsam. Literally.

Tea Party Reenactment - 12-16-2007

Attending a Tea Paty Reenactment in Freeport, Texas, the ‘08 underdog chose to symbolically dump the Iraq war first from a slew of choices despised by libertarians and others. Forgoing the United Nations, the Homeland Security Department, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Federal Reserve amongst others, Paul tossed a blue barrel labeled ‘Iraq War’ overboard.

From his writings and rhetoric it is easy to see why.

Some of Paul’s libertarian principles are appealing, but others are certainly not.

Ending the Iraq war: Great! Following the Constitution: Wonderful! Focus on Civil Liberties: Stupendous! The ramifications to ending important social programs, not helping the people of Darfur, no health care for everyone, myopic drilling of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and focusing solely on the individual instead of working together as a nation to solve national problems: Scary

We’re with you part of the way Dr. Paul, but you also mask selfishness with liberty.

Ron Paul: Partially right.

Vote for a Democrat.

Elizabeth Kucinich on Ron Paul & Dennis Kucinich as Running Mates

Congressmen & presidential hopefuls Dennis Kucinich (D) & Ron Paul (R)

The Mavericks

In a recent interview Elizabeth Kucinich acknowledged her husband, liberal Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich, would consider libertarian Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul as his running mate.

For many a Kucinich vs. Paul presidential race would be a dream come true.

Unfortunately, most voters do not delve deep enough into election politics and U.S. policy to give these maverick presidential campaigners a chance. However, with a whopping $5 million in donations freshly dumped into the Paul campaign coffers and an expected $12 million in the fourth quarter, it’s possible the two mavericks might team up as a third party ticket.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich & Elizabeth Kucinich

Elizabeth Kucinich on whether her husband, Rep. Dennis Kucinich, would consider Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul as a running mate:

“It’s a consideration; absolutely. I mean, Ron Paul he’s a great truth teller as well. He’s voted 100% right on the war…So I think there could be some bipartisan movements going on there.”

Either way, as opponents or under the same ticket, Kucinich and Paul could be quite the match.

Economics: Ron Paul Blasts Ben Bernanke on Monetary Inflation

“People in this country are very upset”

Republican libertarian presidential hopeful Ron Paul schooled Federal Reserve Chainman Ben Bernanke recently at a Q&A session with the Joint Economic Committee.

[flv]http://garlinggauge.com/videos/pauleconomics.flv[/flv]
Ron Paul questioning Fed. Chair Ben Bernanke

ABC’s Z. Byron Wolf wrote a great piece on it. Below is an excerpt of the introduction.

When you are Ron Paul, your public enemy No. 1 is the chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Because when you are Ron Paul, although you are technically a Republican, you are really a libertarian, and your strict adherence to the gospel of the Constitution leads you to question why the Federal Reserve — the consortium of 12 reserve banks that acts as the U.S. central bank — even exists.

It doesn’t say anything about any central bank in the Constitution. Not only that, the primary responsibility of the Federal Reserve — to control the money flow and availability of currency on the open market — is something that you, Ron Paul, find incorrigible. The government, you believe, creates inflation when it prints money and moves it willy-nilly into the market to control the very inflation you think it’s causing by moving that money around in the first place. Counterpoint: The gold standard was too inflexible, and the average citizen suffers when the government can’t give the markets more fuel in the form of money. (And for your information, here’s a Fed-produced interactive feature on the Fed.)

But you, as Ron Paul, have your druthers. You’d get right on back to the gold standard, where each dollar represents a set amount of gold. This whole artificial currency is maddening to you (and it’s a lot of the reason you’re running for president, although you get more press for being the only Republican candidate openly in opposition to the Iraq War). In fact, if you became president, one of the many pieces of the federal government you’d work to abolish, along with the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Education, is the Fed.

So, when you’re not out on the stump running for president but back at your day job in Washington, D.C., a job you plan to keep should you fail in your quest for the White House, it’s a good thing for you, as congressman Ron Paul, to sit on the Joint Economic Committee, which from time to time hears testimony from Ben Bernanke, chairman of your hated Federal Reserve.

The author of Freeman4Liberty made some noteworthy comments concerning the financial numbers superimposed on the video.

While Ron Paul is speaking they show the Euro, and the British Pound getting stronger against the dollar. They show that the Yen is weaker than at the beginning of the day. Still they show that the Dollar buys 112 yen that’s down from 114 this week and 118 in the past month.

If that currency jargon bothers or doesn’t interest you, then the next pieces of information should. They show Oil at $97/barrel. That’s up from $60 before the summer and is above last years high which was around $80. Our weak dollar contributes to this higher cost of Oil. They also quote Heating oil and RBOB gasoline. RBOB gasoline is quoted at almost $2.50. This is the price of gas before blending bought in bulk. It would seem that everyone is interested in the fact that gas is going up.

Another “complicated” issue that Congressman Paul refers to is the M3. M3 is a number that should be thought of as all the money in circulation. This includes the money in certificates of deposit and bonds. At some point the federal reserve stopped reporting this number. It is mysterious as to why this number would not be reported. The MZM referred to can be thought of as all money available on demand.

Mind on the money

Wolf concluded:

“What we’re trying to do is follow the mandate that Congress gave us,” Bernanke said. “And the mandate that Congress gave us is to look at employment and inflation as measured by domestic price growth. And as I talked about today, and I think you would agree that we do see risk to inflation and we are taking those into account and we want to make sure that prices remain as stable as possible in the United States.”

Paul countered that by putting more money on the market, Bernanke and the Federal Reserve are devaluing the dollar and robbing from Americans.

“There’s a dollar crisis out there and people’s money is being stolen; people who have saved, they’re being robbed. I mean, if you have a devaluation of the dollar at 10 percent, people have been robbed at 10 percent. But how can you pursue this policy without addressing the subject that somebody’s losing their wealth because of a weaker dollar? And it’s going to lead to higher interest rates and a weaker economy.”

Bernanke argued that since Americans use dollars to buy their goods here in America, a devalued dollar will make imported goods more expensive.

Paul shot back, rounding out his five minutes of questions, “Yes, but not if you’re retired and elderly and you have CDs and their cost of living is going up no matter what your CPI says. Their cost of living is going up and they are hurting.”

It was an interesting exercise in theory, but Paul, even if he were to be elected president, probably would not have the votes in Congress to revamp the financial system, much less abolish the Fed.

A reason perhaps why none of this made wire or newspaper accounts of the hearing, all of which focused on Bernanke’s contention that despite an intensifying slump in the housing market, slower than expected growth and higher inflation, he does not believe the country is headed for a recession and tried to divine where Bernanke’s testimony signaled another interest rate cut.

Ron Paul Anti-Bush Since ‘88

Ron Paul has been opposed to both Bushes

Paul’s Consistency

We seem to be seeing more and more of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul recently, even here on the Gauge. With an intense internet following it shouldn’t be surprising that online videos for and about the congressman would be numerous.

Damned Spot has released a video about Ron Paul videos that includes a 1988 clip from The Morton Downey Jr. Show, comparing the young congressman with Jimmy Stewart’s character from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

Voice over narration asserts “Like Mr. Smith, Paul shows he’s no flip-flopper. Then, as now, he’s anti-Bush.”

Paul has voiced opposition to Bush-41 and Bush-43 many times and in many ways. Here he is on the house floor discussing the president’s “demented philosophy of conquest”:

[flv]http://garlinggauge.com/videos/ronpaul28.flv[/flv]

“Special interests and the demented philosophy of conquest have driven most wars throughout history. Rarely has the cause of liberty as it has in our own revolution been the driving force. In recent decades our policies have been driven by neo-conservative empire radicalism, profiteering in the military-industrial complex, misplaced do-good internationalism, merchantilistic notions regarding the need to control natural resources, and blind loyalty to governments in the Middle East.”

But just being anti-Bush isn’t enough. As mentioned in Best Ron Paul Video Yet:

“Out of a motley crew of dreadful Republican presidential candidates this election cycle, Paul is wisest and would be the least harmful to America.”

“While a Democrat is certainly needed to restore global confidence in America and help lead critical advancements in our society, a Democrat vs. Republican Ron Paul in the general election would be the least scary possible matchup. “

“Then, as now, he’s anti-Bush.” We all should be.

Tucker Carlson: Stop Pretending to Love Ron Paul

Posers for Paul?

On the Oct. 12, 2007 episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, MSNBC conservative commentator Tucker Carlson claimed to be a real Rep. Ron Paul for President supporter, compared to a bunch of pretenders who don’t really believe what Ron Paul believes. Watch for yourself.

Carlson: And let me just say about Ron Paul by the way: Everybody loves Ron Paul, it’s fashionable to love Ron Paul. I voted for the guy in ‘88, I’m a true Ron Paul man. If you knew what he really thought, like eliminating the department of Education, I mean, the liberals who love him would hate him, actually.

Maher: There are things about him that I do not agree with.

Carlson: I do, I agree with him…He’s a radical.

Best Ron Paul Video Yet

President Ronald Reagan & Congressman Ron Paul

Potential frontrunner?

With bombastic internet buzz and now five million dollars in the campaign coffers, libertarian Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is gaining momentum. Out of all the Republican candidates, Paul has the most cohesive theme for his candidacy: Constitutional principles, mitigate government intrusion, no war & free markets.

Now a new video about the candidate has been released, and it’s the best one yet. While Paul’s pro-life abortion stance and elimination of important social programs is deeply troubling, the video is worth a view.

Out of a motley crew of dreadful Republican presidential candidates this election cycle, Paul is wisest and would be the least harmful to America. And with incompetence, secrecy, nepotism and death defining the Bush administration, Paul’s old-school Republican, pro-constitutional principles are resonating.

Take a look.

[flv]http://garlinggauge.com/videos/ronpaul.flv[/flv]

I had the opportunity to hear Ron Paul speak the other day and spend time with his knowledgeable supporters who dominated the last GOP presidential debate.

While a Democrat is certainly needed to restore global confidence in America and help lead critical advancements in our society, a Democrat vs. Republican Ron Paul in the general election would be the least scary possible matchup.

More politicians like Congressman Ron Paul are needed to restore the fallen, broken, craven, and increasingly incompetent Republican Party.

Curious what the worst Ron Paul video is? Don’t fret, we’ve that that one too:
