‘Hockey Mom’ Palin Roundly Booed at Ice Hockey Game

sarahpalinhockey.jpg

Hockey fan: “It’s such a terrible start to the season.”

Sarah Palin, Republican vice presidential nominee and self-titled ‘hockey mom’, was roundly booed at the first hockey game she attended since joining the McCain campaign.

It’s hard to find sympathy for Gov. Palin, given her myopic views on just about everything, but I do feel bad for her daughter, Piper, who shouldn’t have to witness her mother contemptuously booed and hissed by thousands of people.

Funny enough, Palin saw this coming and used her daughter as a prop to mitigate the disapproval of the audience:

E&P Pub notes that ”The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, ‘How dare they boo Piper!’”   So much for that theory.

Ug.

Quotes from the E&P Pub:

“You never know where you are gonna find a political scoop, but Lynn Zinser at her NYT hockey ‘Slapshot’ blog just posted that Sarah Palin, in her much-ballyhooed appearance dropping the puck at the Philly Flyers’ opener, was greeted by “resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd.”

“The biggest problem: when Palin came out to onto the Wachovia Center ice Saturday night — greeted by resounding (almost deafening) boos from the Flyers crowd — the the two hockey players who had no choice but to appear with her in that photo op were turned into props in a political campaign. If Rangers center Scott Gomez or Flyers center Mike Richards wanted to make some sort of political statement, that would be fine, but in this case, they were thrust into a situation not of their choosing. Snider put them there with his ill-advised mixing of politics and sports.”

“The level of discomfort has been palpable for the Rangers’ two Alaska natives, Gomez and Brandon Dubinsky, as they have been asked questions about Palin and the election in recent weeks. Dubinsky, a 22-year-old who has shied away from nothing since he broke in with the Rangers last year, looks petrified when the topic gets brought up. I think both would rather play goalie in a shootout than weigh in on the presidential election. ”

More than their wrong-headed stance on most issues, the McCain-Palin ticket is also losing in the polls because they wrap themselves in false colors, claiming symbols others don’t attribute to them.   Military families are shunning McCain for Obama and hockey fans are booing the Republican ‘hockey mom’ because these people have thought about the impact of Repubican policies.

Discussion of military families on Charlie Rose

The booing of Sarah Palin at a hockey game is indicative of the great flaws in the Republican ticket: They do not inspire, present realistic solutions, or act presidential.  And hell, who wants their sport used as a political tool.  Puck you, Palin.

Sarah is mistaken in thinking that her worshippers are “average Joe Six-packs”. Look at any YouTube video of her rallies; almost EVERYONE there looks like they could have at least 2 extra fingers or toes. These people are far BELOW average.
Yet again, this courageous “pitbull” has to hide behind one of her children to go out in public. What a sad heap of moose dung this woman is.

COULDNT WE KEEP THE PUCK…. AND DROP PALIN ?
Shameless MOM who would take her daughter out there as a shield.
Same mom of a kid-with-needs who has double such handicaps in her state compared to average BECAUSE of the POLLUTION.
How many Republicans does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Republicans don’t screw in lightbulbs, they screw in High School Hockey Rink Locker Rooms because their mom didn’t fund SEX EDUCATION.

Any parent, male or female, who would decide ahead of time that they are going to use their own 7 yr old daughter for crass political purposes like this, and have the thought (much less brag about it ahead of time) that they would use their own child in this way is a lousy, lousy parent. I almost feel sorry for all 5 Palin children. Track was a D student arrested for causing nearly $40,000 in property damage and apparently has a drug history. Bristol is screwed up. And there’s 3 (or 2) more on their way up.

Kids growing up with sick parents like Todd and Sarah have little chance of growing up healthy. I truly hope these kids find themselves one day and don’t turn out like their 2 sick parents.

What I want to know is what this self-proclaimed “hockey mom” proposes to do about the thousands of moms who would love to be hockey moms but can’t afford to put their children in the sport. I also want to know what Palin is so proud of, stating that she was one of those parents who “banged on the penalty box glass” yelling at her son. (see CNN Ticker for story). What a disgrace! She is the type of parent who vilifies the sport and makes it horrible for everyone involved.

This is what happens when Republicans go to un-stagged events with out sworn Republican supporters attending the event. Why would any body then claim the crowd was booing their children and not them. What a horrible thing to subject your children to. Palin is an unfit mother, and a person who is unfit to lead this country. America is very upset with McCain/Palin. Their negative, hate filled and racial attacks against Barack Obama is what is now causing them to get this type of reaction from angry Americans.

Regardless, Palin deserves so much more respect for her actual accomplishments in her public life. Notice, nobody on the Obama side is complaining one iota about her actual governor and prior public office performance, with the exception of the rather petty mickey mouse business with that admitted incompetent and inept state trooper who really deserved to be fired.

Lets say it is 100% true, for sake of discussion, that that trooper did make that death threat, did stupidly taser his stepson, was drunk in uniform, did kill a moose illegally, and other prior acts of bad misconduct in uniform, then, he needed to be fired. The fact that he was not fired was a travesty and miscarriage of justice to Alaskans, if what he did was true.

The trooper was at length interviewed by CNN, and he 98% admitted to the wrongs, and quibbled on some small points to defend his actions. Nobody at all in the state trooper system disciplined that trooper. Every day politicians cross lines on ethics in small ways, that nobody cares about, and this was certainly a small deal any way you slice it.

Heck, look at the Clinton situation before he was elected in 1992, with many scandal matters that were covered up, far worse that anything Palin did. Bush had his own incompetence and life issues before he got elevated from no where to Texas Governor. Far worse than Palin.

Even if McCain and Palin lose, the bottomline, this lady has been a good public servant, far better than most out there, and she will return to Alaska to continue to do a fine job for her state.

The fact that she spoke up about Obama’s ties and relationship with Ayers and Wright is 100% fertile grounds for public awareness and evaluation. In fact, if any campaign fails to bring up character and association issues, then, that is a disservice to the public.

So, let the campaigns bring it all out, and let the chips fall where they may, but in the case of Palin, she truly has performed very well in her political jobs.

what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander?

I’d heard of Track’s record too. Kind of awful that a kid of a governor has to go into the military at such a young age w/o any chance of higher education. The kid was reportedly very violent, ‘an animal’, and got booted out of nearly every game he was in.

Palin a good ‘governor’? Only 20 months and she buys popularity with a huge increase in oil rebates to every Alaskan…upped it 1200 bucks to 3200 per person. Who pays for that rebate? The rest of us non-Alaskans.

Hey Joe sixpack, what cha smokin. What accomplishments are those? How about the rape victoms that have to pay for the rape kits. Only in Alaska. Or the funding for sex education that was cut under the palin administration. Do you remember the bridge to no where that she not only supported but took money for and used. She funded a multi million dollar airport that has only 13 flights a month. Have you done your homework. You are suppose to read up on these people before you vote She is a good public servent for herself only. During this campaign she has lied about Obama and his ties to terrorist. Cheats our government out of money for the “Bridge” (there is another one) and steals yes I consider her allowing her hubby to come in and use our tax money to conduct his business in her office theft. Now if you really want to know what the people of Alaska thinks of her check this out you obviously don’t live in Alaska. http://mikerupert.newsvine.com.....o-coverage

Wow, nice assessment of her rally attendees Sean…it amazes me how some people can be so ignorant. I went to a Palin Rally about 2 weeks ago and let me tell you, I don’t have extra appendages (that would be fingers and toes) and almost everyone at the rally looked well put together and very groomed. The reason they fail to inspire some people, is because you’re too busy trying to come up with some funny quip to say about either on the Republican ticket, without ever listening to a word they say.

I never expected Flyers fans to have any class anyway. It’s pretty sad when you can’t even hold in your political comments for someone dropping the puck. Pretty doesn’t equal stupid. Everyone always complains about how they want someone to run that is just like them, but when it comes in the package of a woman, everyone freaks out.

    Tsk Tsk…how sad.

Okay, you can all jump on my case now.

    ps. Joe, well put.

  15. Leah on October 13th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

Yes, did you notice the loud boos? I heard the rink had to turn up the music and then actually played recordings of people clapping. I have nothing against this woman personally, I just simply don’t think she has any business being in the national spotlight in politics. I have a political blog. . . feel free to read it. http://www.leahomar.wordpress.com

Joe; the inquiry was not whether the trooper deserved to be fired, but whether Palin and her aides unethically used her position as a means to get him fired. He had already had a hearing, and had been disciplined by his superiors. , so you are wrong on two facts of this case.

Obama’s association with Ayers was tenuous at best, as has already been proven to all but the most uninformed voter. No evidence has ever been found that would show any actual friendship or interaction between them except as concerned the Boards they were serving on. If evidence is available to the contrary, and held by the McCain camp they should release it, otherwise they are simply aiding terrorism. If they can’t prove these innuendoes then it is simply lieing.

You should take a look at the extremism of Palin regarding abortions, global Warming, crusade in Iraq, and the links with the seccessionist AIP. She believes in expanding the VPresidency, in using nuclear weapons, engaging in war with Russia, and in invading Pakistan. She has been touted as a leading energy expert, but has no idea how much actual energy is supplied to the rest of the US by Alaska. Her government has been described as amateurish and childish, and her husband was deeply involved in day to day operations, even though he was not a state employee, and had no business knowing much of what was happening in the meetings.

  17. Joe on October 14th, 2008 at 6:14 am

Palin’s hubby helping out in the office is no different than other aides for politicians. Common on now, again making a big deal out of nothing. The fact that he was complaining to the head boss about the lack of appropriate discipline on the trooper was warranted and normal within higher executive government. The head chief already admitted he was not influenced and pressured, which is true since he did squat anyway to participate in discipline that was warranted. The trooper got a slap on the hand and there was no real competent investigation into his misdeeds, or the standards are way to lax, which is the blame to police management for that.

You all are covering up for Obama and Ayers. The issue here is honesty for Obama in that he does not want to fess up what was the nature and extent of his association over the years. Eyewitnesses have already been interviewed where they state his first campaign and political outing was in Ayers house and hosted by Ayers. Everyone knows Ayers as a domestic terrorist. The point is that Obama associated with that creep and that is something which the voters should consider. He associated with other creeps. How many more creeps will he bring into the oval office and as guest in the White House. So far as I am concerned, the door is open for his old buddies dropping by anytime to take about old times and whatever else.

She has an 80% approval rating in her job as Governor, and she has brought forth reform and good government and oversight. She is not a neo-con, and she never said war was necessary, but only as a last resort, which is even what Obama states all the time.

The bottomline is that Americans are steaming mad at Bush, and therefore they are willing to go crazy and bring into office a pure socialist President who has offered socialistic programs unprecedented in US History. He will have to print up enormous amounts of dollars, the US Treasury will have to borrow more and more at higher and higher interest rates, and the US could become like Iceland, BK!!.

He has to do his agenda of govt programs and hire legions of new Fed workers to carry it all out. They will be writing up tons of regulations and mandates, that will be spinning heads all day long. The courts will be all clogged up over legal challenges and constitutionality.

Take a serious look at his various promises, and they are impossible to do, such as 95% of Americans are going to pay less taxes, in the worst economic times since 1932. There is no way he can get away with that and then have the US Dollar stay strong and valuable. I lived through the 70s with Carter and all of the stupid programs he fostered, which included further build up of the GSEs that are now BK.

So, go for Obama and socialism in America, and then, you will very much regret the final outcome.

Can’t believe she would use her young child as a shield. Wachovia center…now that’s ironic. Looks like they are both collapsing.

  19. tortuca on October 14th, 2008 at 5:13 pm

    Joe,

Your concerns over Obama and desire for a McCain presidency are frighting. Your worldview must be so skewed, I’m not sure how you function.

Obama is obviously not a socialist, and your multiple attempts at entitling him one does not make it so. You also also note that Palin has an 80% approval rating as governor. When is the last time you checked that? It has fallen quite a bit. Also, I’m not sure you know enough about Ayers to make any judgements. Tell us, what awards has he received and for what reasons? (look it up)

Finally, you ask us to “take a serious look at his [Obama's] various promises,” I suggest that you do just that. Also take a look at McCain’s. If you are seriously considering voting for McCain afterwards, than you are either still ignorant, misinformed, or, sadly, obtuse.
