Sarah Palin: A Bridge Too Far
By Bob Beckel
Democratic Strategist/FOX News Political Contributor
Have we reached the point of mediocrity in this country that Sarah Palin’s debate performance was actually acceptable to her supporters (fortunately, Independents in early polls do not share that view) because she didn’t fall on her face, as many conservatives feared? That’s your standard? No wonder there are still some of you who still think George Bush, the very definition of mediocrity, is a good president.
In a word, Palin’s debate performance was awful. She couldn’t win a high school student council election with those homespun platitudes, repetitive inane comments about the war, and most strikingly her refusal to answer not a few but EVERY question put to her that demanded a direct answer.
Every economic question received the tired tax-and-spend slogans Republicans have bellowed for years.
Foreign policy: “You were wrong on the surge.” — That was it. Not one single idea of her own (which is understandable, since she has none). What would you do different in bad economic times like this? “Cut more taxes in Walissa.” The great foreign policy team around McCain-Palin includes Rudy Giuliani, who has about as much foreign policy experience as Madonna, and who history will record mishandled 9/11 in tragic ways.
Palin’s next foreign policy guru? Mitt Romney. — The same stiff-haired flip-flopper whose entire foreign policy experience was pedaling his bike trying to convert Mormons in France. Or Henry Kissinger, who ran illegal wars in Laos and Cambodia to get Richard Nixon re-elected and lied when he told Americans before the 1972 election that, “Peace is at hand” in Vietnam. I suppose if your worldview is seeing Russia from an island in Alaska, and having a border with our threatening neighbor, Canada, you love these guys.
The Economic Crisis: When asked about the current economic crisis, she says nothing because she knows nothing. But she sure talked about her family breakfast table a lot. That’s the table the citizens of Alaska paid per diem for her to sit at for over 300 days as governor. She says electing her and McCain is electing two mavericks who will cut spending, including earmarks. Palin has asked for, and gotten, $1 million every day in pork for Alaska since she’s been governor.
Palin says she and McCain will appoint the most qualified people to government despite party labels. Sort of like your second grade friend you put in charge of Alaska’s agriculture because “she loved cows as a little girl,” Sarah?
A word for Moderator Gwen Ifill: The right intimidated you. You never forced Palin to answer a question directly and not duck; you bent over backward to take her sophomoric answers seriously; and frankly you treated her with girlie gloves.
But that’s not the point. Even with your softball questions she couldn’t get past “aw shucks,” “hockey moms” and “Wasilla values” (which get weirder and weirder).
If the stakes weren’t so high, this obviously nice and fairly articulate person can probably still govern the state of Alaska, where frankly it doesn’t much matter. But vice president of the United States? That is a bridge not only too far, but the real bridge to nowhere.

Sarah Palin is a big fat joke.Does she actually think she has ever made an intelligent statement. She needs to be hidden in the attic until this election is over, then she can take her whining back to Alaska and be prosecuted as she so deserves.Kwame Kilpatrick is serving time for the same crime she committed, so let’s see her in some prison blues. She is an embarrassment to smart women.Makes you wonder if people in Alaska are all on crack. Her as Governor-what a joke.
Why Fox allows someone like you on the air is hard to understand. You are a despicable left wing nut who whines and cries when you are called what you are but feel it is your right to bash everyone else that is on the opposite side of your views. typical liberal stance - do as I say but you cannot do as I do. I truly disliked you years ago and still think you are and arrogant pompous ass. You leftists are so afraid of Governor Palin and what she stands for that you make me ill.
Oh, and Camille Paglia, one of the honest liberals out there—disagrees with Beckel. Paglia sees that Governor Palin definitely has some brainpower; otherwise she couldn’t get where she is. Democrats always accuse non-democrats of being stupid. It’s in the playbook somewhere. Not falling for it.
governor Palin is the most real, not-phoney-baloney politician we’ve seen. She’s extremely knowledgeable on the energy issue, is even liked by democrats in Alaska, and would be an awesome leader in this country. Beckel is in denial about Obama: the racially charged, anti-american, anti-white (hey, just google “James Cone”, a favorite of Jeremiah Wright and you’ll see it) church he attended for 20 years, scary associations with Bill Ayers–who has ties to Hugo chavez and whose daughter works for Chavez! A wife who says “This is just a mean country”. THAT’S first lady material??? An anti-american first lady?? Obama close ties to ACORN, corrupt criminal group committing voter registration fraud all over the country, his ties to Khalid Al Monsoor–a radical muslim who tells whites to “tear the flesh of white people, because God wants you to” (shudder), and O’s close ties to thug Kenyan leader Raila Odinga. Wake up, America! Obama is not who you think he is. He is the most radical, leftwing candidate we’ve ever seen! Vote Mccain/Palin for a pro-America ticket.
At the town hall meeting Mr. McCain stated that it was a “RESPONSIBILITY NOT A RIGHT” for all Americans to have health insurance. Defined, meaning citizens should be accountable for obtaining their own insurance policies.
Mr. Obama stated that it is a”RIGHT” for all individuals to have insurance. I thought rights pertained to the right of free speech, right to bear arms, and others. My selective memory disposed of the “RIGHT” to bear insurance! I give Obama credit for not changing the course of his convictions. He was afilliated with Acorn, promoting the RIGHT to free homes which resulted in the financial fall out and bailout.
To all of you out there ,you have a RIGHT to vote, but please be RESPONSIBLE.
Bob your a left wing and your comments are just that. You are not the BMOC (big man on campus) that you think you are. You are the token left wing on fox along with Alan so please stop your pathetic attempt to make us believe you are more than a Clinton fool.
Hans, stop drink the Kool aid that Bob is serving is no more than a Clinton Fool.
Bob Beckel, you sir, are a hero!
WHY IS JEROME CORSI BEING HELD IN KENYA. HE IS BEING HELD BECAUSE HE KNOWS THE TRUTH ABOUT OBAMA……………….
WAKE UP AMERICA……………………….
to John (the blogger on this site)…. and to Palin/McCain….. and all the other supporters of blasphemy and ‘right-wing’ terrorism and lies who want to tell us all how to live:
But the Lord is with me as a dread warrior;
therefore my persecutors will stumble;
they will not overcome me.
They will be greatly shamed,
for they will not succeed.
Their eternal dishonor
will never be forgotten.
—Jeremiah 20:11
May you one day RIP— but I suspect NOT…………….
Hey Bob,
Hang in there - remember you are working at the Republican news. I’m a Republican voting against McCain. You are dead on right about Palin, it is very sad that some are so blinded by the party line that they would defend this candidate. She is out of her league, ill informed and dangerous with her simple minded view of the world and America.
Thanks for standing up,
Mike
Forot to rely to Lilbit
Abortion is a pregnant woman’s choice, NOT mine, and nobody elses - it belongs to that woman, and that woman alone. And therein lies the isue for me - humans have a choice and live with the consequences of the choices they make
Defenseless animals, if monsters like Palin have their say, do NOT have a choice. I raise the issue of Ms. Palin’s desire to exterminate and eradicate wolves and polar bears because I keep hearing all these republican women extol the virtues of Ms, Palin and how closely they relate to her. Are these your values also? This is what’s “best” about America? What century are you people living in? I suppose you all agree with Ms. Palin’s assertion that the planet is 6,000 years old, and humans danced with Dinasours! Really? REALLY??? Have you been blessed against witchcraft??? REALLY?????
You are less than a man. If you had said that awful remark to me I would have knocked you silly.
Which by the way is what you are, silly. You might watch your back, if I were her husband I would
be looking for you, just to remaind you in a manly way to keep stupid mouth shut. Palin won that
debate.
Alex,
Sorry I could not respond in a timely fashion. Unfortunately for you, I was working. Yes, working. At a job. Where I use my MBA to make money…actual money. You assumed that I could not possibly have a career or a job or a clue because I disagreed with you. So, the opportunity to find someone in your strata with a dissenting opinion is a shock, isn’t it. I think I know why.
You pontificate (on and on and on) that you fled Communism about 50 years ago and recently retired. Hmmmmm. So that would mean you left before you were an adult. So this Dickensonian (not a word for the unemployed, mind you) existence was not yours but your parents. You never had to raise a family or make a living in that world. Your world was the standard “Happy Days” baby boomer scenario.
Either way, I would not begrudge you that. I could make a “non-comment” like “You wouldn’t be a candy a$$, xenophobic Baby Boomer, would you?” That type of statement, as a question, allows me to disparage you without having the stones to actually come right out and say it. I have way too much class for that. Thank God you are not encumbered by such burdens
Is the word “encumbered” big with the Homeless and Penniless, Alex?
What do I know? I can’t even maintain gainful employment (or conscious thought or normal bowel functions) because I don’t agree with Alex, the Successful Refugee!!!
punk.
I cannot believe you think she has the intelligence of a kid. She said that she held back when Katie couric interviewed her because she said that Katie was really making fun of the Alaskans like some back woodsy place asking what magazines do you read. She answered every question sharp and quick with carl cameron believe listen to it yourself and make your own opinion.’she is no dumby. I believe she is a better orator than McCain actually she can talk to anyone but like she said she was trying to be nice but now she learned that this world is cruel and Katie Couric was asking stupid questions. The de-regulation she shouted out two of her favorites to Carla and apologized for not answering the American people she said she was just amazed at the flack she got for it. So she is ready to come out like the Barracuda she is from her college days when her journalism degree was gotten and use it now. They think she doesn:t know anything about the press and yet that is what she got her degree in it.
Henry Kissinger said absolutely she knows her material, she was charming and ready to roll. He backs her up. Donald Trump witha ll his money said he is behind her 100%. I would say those two people alone would know whether she is ready or not.
What gets me is the View you have three comedians on there mouthing off every day about the U.S. and Bush yes, I do not agree with altogether but he kept us safe after 911, Biden said he and Obama would sit down and talk to the terrorists -Carry the white surrender flag. I have friends in the service and they said Oh My God when they heard that. The terrorists want Obama they said they know he knows nothing about foreign policy and wants to sit and have tea with them.
I cannot believe that Joe Public is not using their head most people are voting him because of Bush but McCain cannot help what Bush did.
Sarah Palins state had oil think of what that would do for our energy situation, she has 89 % of her state backing her up that is a marvelous percentage, she doesn”t play harball with the big wigs and that is why they are afraid of her and McCain. The Maverick and Barracuda -The Truth
I agree with Bob Beckel… Sarah Palin has show herself to be superficial, glip, and totally unworthy of serious consideration for VP. But most interesting are some of the comments posted here. It seems that die/hard republicans really hate losing so much that they would prefer a total incompetant person over a qualified person. If Palin had just answered the questions put to her with honesty and clarity then maybe she could be taken seriously. But instead she chose glip remarks, slogans, winks, and evasion. Now these republicans want to change the discourse from real issues to what they call “character”. Isn’t this always the way when they wish to redirect the voters attention. Now they are choosing to use misinformation, falsehoods, exaggerations, and just plain outright lies. It’s a sad statement that more republicans haven’t shunned McCain/Palin for there despicable tactics.
What a great strategy by Palin?
” I am not going to answer your question. Instead I am going to speak directly to the American People.”
Translation.. I don’t know what the heck you are talking about so I will get folksy.
Give me a break
Dave and Bob, we just had a debate between a man with 36 years in the Senate and a woman who has been on the national scene for only a few weeks. I’d say she held her own; by doing so, she proved what she will be capable of doing as vice president.
Aside from a single evening’s debate, Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, is far better qualified to be vice president than zero executive experience qualifies Barack Obama to be president. Democrats did not hesitate to point out that Bill Clinton’s decade of executive experience as governor of a small state better prepared him to be president than Bob Dole’s long and distinguished career in the U.S. Senate. I’m sure Democrats are not hypocrites, right?
And Leanne from Australia - thanks for your input!! It’s not over here yet, by any means. I have a large family spread all over this country (and a nephew - a West Point graduate - who is in Iraq), a large circle of friends and know many people through my profession; I don’t know of one who plans to vote for Obama. May God bless Australia and may God bless the United States of America.
Bob Beckel isn’t interested in Truth! When confronted with Obama’s past, he just turns the table. Who are you working for, Bob? Russia?
There is legitimate concern about Obama’s anti-American affiliations. It should be a top news story!
If McCain is behind it’s because of you and a biased media for hindering the truth and evading real issues, i.e. (Acorn, illicit huge donations unidentified, the questionable charactor of Obama’s associations, democratic congress and how they contributed to this mess today, etc.).
Mr. Beckel, I DO believe CHARACTER of the President is more important that economics…because when this blessed nation slips into socialism, the economics issue will become secondary. What good is a nation with money when they have compromised their individual freedom and sovereignty?
It’s people who think like you that leave the backdoor opened in America for its enemies to enter quietly. How did Obama make it this far? Most people would have been watched by the FBI. Who’s protecting him? That’s scarey. Our colleges are at risk because of WHO is teaching at them, and the list goes on. The fact that there is heavy support for Obama from foreign nationals says it all. Wake up America, or a year from now we may not have an America to wake up to. The biggest fool always thinks…it can’t happen to me.
i wish fox news would sack this horrible sour man i thought sara palin won the debate easy.and i am a australian. our news channels in australia did a poll after both debates and john mcCain won the first debate 56/44 and sara palin won the vp depate 54/46 just thought you would like to know as us aussies are really independents.
I do not understand why the democarts are so glueless as to the fact that if Obama is elected and implements all the programs he says he will the country will go bankrupt. Were do they think the money for those programs is going to come from. He says he is not going to raise taxes. He has to to pay for all his give mes to the people that just think they are “owed” or that want everything given to them. They don’t want to work for the anything. These people just want the government to take care of them.
I am shocked at the why the democrats think. Take no responsilbilty. One of my favorite lines Gov. Palin had in the debate Thursday night was do not live beyond your means. Be responsible.
I wish the McCain/Palin ticket would expose these facts to the public. Talk about the reason to give “rich people/corportations” taxes breaks is so they can buy equipment and hire more workers. Maybe even some of the business that have taken their work overseas is to partly keep from paying the high taxes thrown at them here.
John McCain, Sarah Palin I love you, but please you need to expose Obama’s tax plan for what it is. And really tell people how different you will be.
Bob Beckel: How can you , an american citizen want a corrupt man like Obama to be our president. One who will want to have socialism, and one who was the third highest paid benefactor from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? One who has radical friends and is not ready to defend our country? I really wish someone, you or anyone in their right mind can answer that question. Being a democrat is one thing, but corruption is another.
Bob, I am tired of seeing your big fat face on tv. Did your momma drop you on your head to make you shut up? You big crybabby, everything you say is wrong, wrong, wrong.
Hey Bob, you remind me of that editor at the paper from the Spiderman comics. Condescending, arrogant, hateful, and WRONG!
Bob,
My sentiments exactly. I think Governor Palin is a good, likeable person. But I was stunned to hear that people thought she did well in that debate.
Frankly, I wish there were a McCain-Biden ticket. Right now I don’t care about who’s likeable or charismatic. I just want a President who knows what he’s doing.
Dave
Did he call Bush mediocre??? Bush & Trent Lott are 2 sides of the same coin. Can’t wait for Bush to be gone.
Obama is the definition of mediocrity — talk about a man devoid of this “experience” you speak of and even more in need of serious self exploration since he cannot even write his own memoirs without “excluding” details. Not to mention his total lack of understanding regarding the economy.
I would have been floored if Bob Beckel said anything kind about any Republicans, regardless of who they are. If anyone has ever listened to him debate on TV, he does nothing more than spout talking points. He has no original thought. In short, he’s AWFUL.
I could not agree with you more. The fact that there is even a single American citizen thinking Palin is qualified to be a VP is not only shameful but a disgrace. I would not trust her to be a high school class leader. People wake up and do what is right for your country.
Your article repulses me. You are so wrong. What we really need to equal true checks and balances is a women and a man in office.
America, What Will Become Of Thee?
Both Presidential Candidates promise to Change/Reform our country and way of life; from status quo to WHAT? Have you sorted through all of the rhetoric of promises as to what is reasonably attainable and sustainable and how will we pay for it? Have you assessed what proposed change/reform may adversely affect our nation’s economy and security? Turn off your partisan biases and think for yourself with a clear mind as to what changes and reforms will be good for our country and your family. Once you find the answers, VOTE your conscience. You just may get what you asked for.
In addition to the extensive research on the issues on hand, this commentator mostly relied on his 72-year life experiences to reach a decision as to who is most creditable and qualified to lead our country. I was born in Nazi-occupied Poland. My Christian grandparents were persecuted for harboring Jews. We were trapped in the eastern block of Europe until 1948 living under a Soviet Marxist Regime. We first fled to communist Eastern Germany, then socialist Western Germany. I immigrated to this great country over 50 years ago. Some of you may ask what that has got to do with voting for the next president. Everything - as far as I’m concerned! I compared the two presidential candidates with former US Presidents and other former and present world leader. Good Character and credibility are on top of the list of must have attributes. Having lived in a number of socialist societies for 21 years, I immigrated to a free and capitalistic society 51 years ago and prefer to live there for the rest of my life. However, I’m very concerned what will become of our beloved country when one or the other candidate becomes president. One thing for certain, the proposed changes by either candidate will change our society and way of life. I don’t wish to relive Socialism!
Our National Security is at risk because of internal and external extremism and terrorism. United we can eradicate the internal terrorism; but, we cannot count on the UN nor our so-called allies to help us in the war against extreme Islamic terrorism. Europe suffers from a case of Appeasement and Cowardice, the very same type of peace-making stance that emboldened Hitler to conquer France and several eastern European countries which started WWII. I want my President to re-unite our nation and, as Commander-in-Chief, to be strong and decisive against our enemies.
Mr. Beckel, perhaps you should have a look at the youtube Obama-allegiance-pledging “Obama Youth — Junior Fraternity Regiment” from Kansas City, Missouri. Pledging allegiance to a presidential candidate who has his own “seal” is, for certain, A BRIDGE TOO FAR.
If Barack Obama gets voted in, these goose-steppers are America’s future. Some schools are already trying to eliminate ROTC programs; is this what will replace them?
It’s hard to imagine that with all the information available in this society, that anyone would still consider voting for someone like Obama to serve in the White House. It’s impossible to believe any political party in this country would even have him on a ballot. When it’s too late, it will be just that: TOO LATE.
I was an undecided voter but after finding out all the ties that Obama has to terrorists, I am scared to death to think of the condition we will be in if he wins. The light came on for me this weekend as I realized that Ayers started grooming Obama for the “insider” position when he made him community organizer in Chicago. Ayers is a socialistic terrorist and he and his friends needed someone they could manipulate in the White House so they chose Obama because of his charisma and public speaking ability. I have seen that when Obama is confronted on one of his statements that may not be particularly pleasing to the current audience, he says “you don’t understand. What I’m saying is…” and he flip flops his statement to cease the moment. If Obama gets in the White House you can bet that terrorists will suddenly have access to our national security blueprint and will worm their way into each and every area of our government and we will soon be led by terrorists. Again I say that I am fearful for our safety and the future of our great country if we elect Obama.
McCain lacks charisma and charm but he proved during his POW years that he will put the good of our country first and protect us in times of turbulence. Palin is a fresh breath from all the stuffy, snobby, good old boys in Washington. Personally I like her “down to earth” style. She can relate to all of us everyday Americans. I want to live in “the land of the free” and pass this country into the hands of our children and grandchildren still intact, the way our forefathers brought forth this great country founded on God. People like me have stayed silent too long and now it’s time to put the government back to work for us. I’ve decided I’m voting for McCain and Palin!
Bob,
You don’t have an intellectually honest bone in your body do you?
On the very night of the debate you tried to say that the expectations for her were so low that anyone could have overcome them.
Whether you realize it or not Bob - this woman has the opportunity to become one of the most powerful women in the U.S. She is smart (regardless of what you think), she is strong (overcoming some of the most ridiculous attacks against her character), and she is attractive to the American voter because she CONNECTS. She connects in a way that Obama cannot - where people live.
I thought America was the place where any person could aspire to serve because it’s about “We the People”. Just not ib Bob’s world.
So she didn’t anwer every question the way YOU thought she should. Noone expected her to have full knowledge of all foreign affairs. However, unlike the presidency, she can get on the job training & the VP should. Obama doesn’t have foreign policy experience but you don’t question his wanting to be president? You judge her by a different scale that the nominee for president on your side of the ticket. You simply show yourself to be an arrogant know-it-all incapable of thinking outside your party lines.
Does anyone remember what they said of Abraham Lincoln?
“The ugly, ignorant, backwoods Lincoln..” “the baboon”
They blamed him for mistakes of others, they were bitter of his grammar, his appearance, his family.
Hummmm……..
Sound familiar? Their hate was so strong he was murdered let us pray this does not happen to Palin. The things you judge a man/woman on is not necessary what makes the man/woman. It is character which makes the man, not an education, not perfect grammar nor speech. Someone whom would vote for botched abortion babies simply to be left to die, lacks serious moral character.
Lord help us if this is how we judge. You accuse so many others of lacking intelligence but do not see the very lack of it in yourself. Hate and bitterness and ignorance are the rule of the day. Lord help us.
To Bob Beckel and other delusional folks out there - “sophomoric” is a really good term for describing people like you, who would elect a President Obama with zero governing experience. I’ll hasten to add that Obama has never “reached across the aisle” in his brief “nano-career”, while McCain has a long history of uniting members of our legislative branch. You only support Obama because he’s a democrat who will play more of the same democrat party politics. Nice try, but the Presidency is WAY too far above pee-wee league for Obama.
Ronald Allen, I think you can still vote for John McCain despite your opinion of Sarah Palin; heaven knows, for eight LONG years, we all had to put up with Al the-sky-is-falling-reinvent-government-by-destroying-and-dismantling-it Gore. We’ll survive even with whatever shortcomings Palin has before we’ll survive the shortcomings of Barack Obama - WHO, btw, is running for president - she isn’t.
Bob Beckel and Ellen Ratner both have elitist comments. How dare they look down their nose at someone who has a certain syntax in her speech that doesn’t meet their definition of proper speech patterns. What about Bill Clinton, LBJ and JFK. There are many more I am sure that had certain speech patterns which were different than what they train for in journalism or acting school. I am so sick of everyone thinking Barack Obama is the be-all to end-all. He is a very scary person and not because of his speech patterns or his looks. I would say he is quite good looking but looks cannot be the defining criterion for a president of the United States. Sarah is wonderful and refreshing. I am concerned about our country if Barack Obama is elected.

Very Nice and Accurate assessment. I would have voted republican were it not for the terribly bad decision of John McCain to choose this pathetic lady from Alaska. So You Dems welcome me to your side of the table…(hmmm) I wonder how many out there feel the same way i do? McCain for sure cant handle the president of USA’s job if he cant handle a simple selection of running mate. Case closed!
Sounds like Shay must be getting govt. handouts and wants to keep it that way. A vote for Obama is a vote for socialism. God bless America and its free market system!!!!!!
Shay, don’t forget these words: if Obama wins the election, it will serve YOU right.
The person charading as OBAMA:
You are disgusting!
Take your hood off!
We know what you are!
Bob Beckel,
Thank you for your article. Someone finally is able to tell America what Sarah Palin is all about.
I have found it astonishing to hear people say she did so well and didn’t disappoint her party! Well, her party will put up with anything or anyone as long as it fits their needs.
I don’t see how anyone could believe Sarah Palin is ready for the VP spot. This woman is light-weight.
Alaska governor, okay, VP of American, NOT!!!!!!!!
Palin’s performance was scary and an insult! Only Republicans found it “REFRESHING”.
I found it DISGUSTING! A wink and shout-out! Doesn’t Palin realize VP is a serious position and she should have taken the VP Debate seriously, but she didn’t.
McCain you have done the American people a disservice. How could you have brought someone like Sarah Palin to your campaign??? How idiotic!!!!!
You deserve what you get! You will not win the election. Serves you right!!
to intelligence lost
What are you saying? That was just illiturate. If overlevarage is a big word to you than we(voters)are all in big trouble. Its baseless nonsense like what you spit out that is ruining this great land. Get informed. Bill Maher was right. America is too dumb to be governed. Thanks for proving his point right.
Bob,
Did you write this before or after the debate? Talk about tired rhetoric. By the way, It’s Wasilla, not Walissa. Your ignorance is exceeded only by your arrogance and condescension.

That was a whole paragraph of nothing. It said less than zero about what really matters. You are clearly an uninformed voter who still is stuck on Hillary. She’s out so move on to reality and not what might have been.
you seem like a lost sole with what you said.
well at least she didn’t tell a bunch of lies like Joe Biden did and all the other dem’s do.
Fox is for dumb scum……………… That includes soccer/hockey moms and joe six packs who were dumb enough to overleverage (sorry, too big a word) — take on too much debt so they can buy lots of useless rubbish (tvs, junky American cars, and more tainted Chinese made toys). I hope the soccer/hockey moms and joe six packs are ready to explain to their kids why they will soon have NOTHING!!!!! Maybe Palin can take a crack at explaining it……. she’s real smart.
I see she is REALLY making you upset.
The ABC and CBS evening news anchor(s) are also none too happy with her,
as well she is most of the morning TV show hosts…
RS, you state that all of the candidates have “sold their souls.”
Gov. Sarah Palin is a product of her own will, courage, integrity and resolve. She owes no man and no man owns her. We decry all the politicians who seemingly HAVE sold their souls and then reject the one, who by some miracle is now a VP candidate on a presidential ticket, who hasn’t! (and John McCain proved long ago in Hanoi, where he was stripped to the bone, that he is his own man)
Barack Obama is a product of the notoriously corrupt Chicago political machine. In just 900 days in office, his earmarks (another thing we say we object to) amounted to $900 MILLION. That tells me that Barack Obama owes a whole lot of people (who paid for his “world tour”, anyway?)
We, the voters, have an opportunity to put our money where are mouths are. We can start with the White House and then start cleaning out the House and Senate and get in the kind of true representative government that we all long for. We have a responsibility, too, however. Do not believe the hype and party line, but find out the facts and get involved. Remember: THEY are US. And they will never be better than we collectively are.
you are so far left i can’t even see your fat ass…..this article is rubbish.
i think you are just trashing a woman because you’re a sexist fool.
you have no idea what true talent is if you think obama is qualified to be our next president.
he has no track record of accomplishments - NONE. maybe that is why he is referred to as O.
he will be a fat ZERO for the next 4 years, or when ppl like you realize he fooled you all.
Beckel, let’s see, you ran the mondull campaign, so you know so much about winning in an election. How did that work out for you, Bobby boy??? You wouldn’t know a good debate if it bit you in your fat a**. Keep saying this stuff, the people in flyover country really love it, and I am sure it will help your guy, Obama the socialist, win the election. Don’t even mention the many, many inaccuracies and downright lies told by Plugs Biden. No, that would be remotely fair and balanced. What an idiot.
Once again you prove what a joke you are. Architect of the Mondale campaign, eh? That went well for you, huh? Get a life.
Beckel, why are some of the criticisms I’ve read about Palin’s performance identical to those of Obama’s in his debate? Yet he is still the Dems “messiah?” Incredible hypocrisy.
In truth, Biden and Palin, together, pleased a surprising number of people. Considering how recently Palin came on the national scene, her performance was extraordinary! Biden has been in the Senate for 36 years; Palin on the national scene five weeks. And yet most viewers thought it was a draw. Could you have done as well? Could any of you who are spewing vitriol in your judgment and opinions of her have done half as well? We all know the answer. Sarah Palin is extraordinary; if she could hold her own in a VP debate after just weeks, imagine the Vice-President she could be.
She won, hands down.
You and Barney Frank share a great deal more than most see. Your bloviating tirade criticized someone who took on a “Washington Insider” and showed the country all he is good at is smiling. Palin showed Biden to be a stuffed suit. As one American I can truely say she talks to me and I get it. Biden was telling the country 60 days ago that Obama was not up for on-the-job training.
On an entirely separate issue, why would the country want the next commander-in-chief to be someone one who has radical associations, questionable campaign contributions, very little personal history except the book he has written, and who has spent all of his time in public office running for president.
This guy is dangerous. He needs to be exposed for who he is and, I bet, when McCain does he will accused of smearing and racisim.
CBC. Cry Baby Cry.
You all are a sorry bunch of individual, who state that Palin is not capable of being the vice president because she was just a governor, well Clinton and Bush both were just Governor and they became presidents. Palin will make an excellent VP.
Your article was an utter waste of webspace.
You sound like you are a two bit journalist, Oh wait you are. You may be paid to say what you think, but you forget just how low your opinion counts for most americans. As usual, journalists, think that what they have to say has some merit. You lost that ability and credibility when you , as part of the media, do not do your homework and spout the Democratic Party Line. If you would take the time to investigate just who your vaulted heros of Obama and Biden are, then you would re-evaluate your positions. Neither of them are leaders except to sociacist and elitists. What a waste of paper and ink.

Let me say it for you … Smart people scare me. The less educated should run the country.
Beckel, you’re a moron. All Biden did was regurgitate the Osama lies he has been spewing for the past 17 months of his campaign. Osama is a radical, he hangs out with the black panthers, Malcolm X and every other left wing I hate America black racist group. when he is called on it he gives the same answer “I didn’t inhale” - dodging the question. When the undecideds finally find out who this NUTCASE leftist is, there will be a landslide in favor of McCain. Especially when the real reason for the $700 billion dollar bailout is fleshed out.
LOL! All you “Far Righties” and “Far Lefties” are funny, sad, and scary. I’ve got $5.00 for anyone who will think either Obama or McCain will change a thing. Other then pursuing their own agenda for their own interests. If you think otherwise, please don’t be so naive. Color or Sex doesn’t matter. They’ve all sold their soul to some special interest groups. I would think that as much as lawyers are despised based upon what they screw up, yet folks want to keep electing them to public office. And Senators push paper, they don’t manage. I think, once again, I’m going to vote for a candidate who won’t rip money from my wallet. Frankly, I’m tired of paying for freeloaders. (be it wall street or welfare)
Sarah Palin kicks ass and takes names and that’s what we need in the White House. I don’t know what debate you watched but you are so wrong.
Obama is who the rest of the world wants us to elect, countries that hate us. What does that tell you?
What does ACORN tell you about OBAMA? Do a search on Obama and ACORN and see what ya get!
What does Reverend Wright tell you about OBAMA? He sat there 20 yrs. Racist!
Come on - who would America rather have protecting them? Which is most important because if we aren’t safe, then we die. Nothing else matters as much as that!
I think a war hero that isn’t involved with terrorists is who I want and if you are half sane you would too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAKE UP YOU DEMOCRATS!
Great commentary!! She appeared as Gomer Pyle in a dress (maybe from Fargo), I am from Wisconsin and we don’t talk that way!! If we have any hope of change it will be with Obama………..
Bob;
What has Obama done for this country? Nothing. He came out of the woodwork like an ant. He had more PORK then John MCain, check the record.Shara did a great job , what debate were you looking at?Please be honest, use your brain.
Thank You
John Middlebrook
You are a bit too far to the left for me to EVER read anymore of your columns. In fact you are a liberal bigot, find another job you suck at this one.
Your droning on about lack of foreign policy experience only highlights your candidates lack there of.
