ABC Constructs Controversy: Obama vs. Biden

Much Adoe About Nothing

ABC’s Political Rader blog has chosen to create controversy instead of report on substance (sounds like us).

At the recent Black and Brown Forum of Democratic presidential hopefuls where candidates can ask each other questions, Sen. Barack Obama addressed a question to Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Sen. Joe Biden, asking if Biden would help buttress the enforcement of hate crimes legislation in the Senate if Obama were to ascend to the presidency.

Biden responded, “I would be happy to make you the head of the civil right division of my administration.”

This type of “If I’m president” Pong-like banter between candidates is nothing new, yet ABC News’ Eloise Harper, Raelyn Johnson and Sunlen Miller choose to connect this parry with an earlier compliment by Biden to Obama that was widely reported as “off-color.”

ABC’s circuitious connection is misguided and sophomoric at best. Behold the comments on the piece:

Why such a biased title?

Obama’s question implied that he will win and Biden will stay in the Senate. Biden’s reply of course implied that HE will be the one to win.

Excessive PCness, and looking under every tiny rock to find something that could possibly be turned into an attention-grabbing racial (or otherwise) slur is just plain wrong.

One of the things I like about Obama is that he seems to barely make his race an issue, and that’s how it should be. IMHO of course.

There is nothing wrong with Biden’s answer. Biden wants to be the president and Obama used to be a civil right attorney. If Biden said he will make Obama the head of the civil right commission, there is no fuse about it.

Clearly ABC is stretching. All I have to say is:

Barack Obama is a lightweight. Joe Biden is a heavyweight. Biden is most qualified to be President in these turbulent times. Obama is not. Biden would prove to be victorious in the General Election. Obama would not. Biden will attract moderate and conservative voters as well as liberals. Obama will not. End of story.

No doubt. Obama is certainly appealing, but only as a Democratic primary candidate. In the general election he could get eaten alive. Republicans and Independents could migrate to Biden while Obama could be left hanging in the wind.

You certainly hit the nail on the head with your statement. We are in total agreement. It’s really a shame. Hillary, Obama, Edwards or Richardson would get hammered by the Republicans. Biden is the Democrat’s strongest candidate, they better wake up!
