Bill Maher Hounded by 9/11 Theorists; Ejects Audience Member

“In that instance I’m actually defending President Bush…And cows disagree with me.”

Bill Maher offers up one of the most rationale voices on television, calling out those on the far-left and far-right for their obtuse opinions. At the live broadcast of his October 19, 2007 episode of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher helped expel a shouting ‘9/11 Truther’ from the audience who was interrupting the show.

9/11 Truthers‘, while right to challenge and be skeptical of the government, go too far for Maher and he says so.

Strong Language

“Crazy people who still think the government brought down the twin towers in a controlled explosion have to stop pretending that I’m the one being naive.”

To put on a 9/11 conpiracy hat for a moment, though improbable, is possible that the green President Bush ordered the destruction of United Airlines Flight 93 and covered it up, indoctrinating himself into a long six years of self-approved governmental secrecy.

While extremely doubtful, there is no way to really know and little evidence to prove that theory (amongst hundreds of other theories), but that doesn’t stop people from trying. And face it, alternative histories are intriguing, and since much of history is inaccurate or at minimum incomplete, filling in the gaps is enticing to some.

But ultimately some people are comfortable with the unknowable and some are not.

Therein lies the rub. Since the government does keep secrets from its citizens, we have to speculate, and people have an insatiable desire to make connections and fill in the gaps; just think of religion.

Maher is certainly comfortable with the unknowable and says so.

“Everywhere I go people say to me: ‘Why don’t you cover on your show what really happened on 9/11′ .”

Everywhere I live Mormons in sacred underwear knock on my door asking me to join them. That’s annoying too.

“In that instance I’m actually defending President Bush. I don’t think President Bush brought down the World Trade Center. And cows disagree with me.”

Widely publicized excerpt from Real Time with Bill Maher, October 19, 2007, when the host helps eject a 9/11 Truther.

A reminder of what it is all about. Rare footage of the 9/11 attack.

Like it or not, conspiracy theories will persist long after President Bush vacates the White House. In the above video the president is speaking at the United Nations saying something you wouldn’t think he would have to say, overdubbed with 9/11 Truther narration.

In the end we’re all hounded by the unknowable, by ourselves or through others.

Haven’t had your conspiracy theory fill yet? Fret not, I’ve got my own wacky theory to sink your teeth in.
