Glenn Beck: African-American Dems Are Miserable

Beck to Blacks: You’ve been shafted

In his June 20, 2007 introductory remarks on Headline Prime, blowhard Glenn Beck stated that urban African-Americans have been given the “shaft” because they’ve voted for Democrats who “have led them into nothing but misery time and time again.”

Glenn Beck followed up his statements with the following facts, statistics, and guest speakers on African-American city life:

Oh, wait, he just moved on.

Like many conservative pundits, Glenn Beck exhibits an irrational, supercilious condemnation for liberal ideals without evidence while all the time claiming to be an independent.

Democratic African-American city-dwellers live in nothing but misery?

Glenn Beck thinks so.

African-American individuals and urban communities can speak for themselves, Mr. Beck.

And they do.

According to the Bay Area Center for Voting Research in their paper on liberal and conservative cities, “Cities with predominantly large African American populations ended up as the most liberal cities in America”.

In addition, “strong correlations seem to indicate that African American votes continue to support primarily liberal candidates.”

African-Americans, like all Americans, vote for candidates who they believe will best support their diverse interests in city, state, and national offices. Glenn Beck’s claim that African-Americans don’t know is twisted through his ideologically conservative lens.

Speak for yourself Mr. Beck, speak for yourself.

The only information you provide validates what he said, namely that urban blacks have voted Democratic.

    So your criticism is…what again?

Urban blacks haven’t been given the shaft by “liberals” or “conservatives.” They’ve been given the shaft by rich suburbanites that profit from the city infrastructure and run off in their suv’s back to their gated green lawns and open spaces. They’ve been given the shaft by local governments that won’t co-operate on public transit or fund “failing” (re-read neglected and underfunded) inner city schools. They’ve been given the shaft by generations of people who blame the poor for their poverty. They’ve been given an especially large shaft by idiot policies that encourage amerikan companies to disinvest in domestic manufacturing and industry.

Beck sounds disingenuous as he’s obviously feebly attempting to lure urban blacks (which are surely a huge percentage of his target demographic. . .) into his lame brand of conservatism. He is probably one of those *holes who blames liberal social programs for poverty. Vote for us - we’ll take away your welfare check and you’ll suddenly be free to become wealthy!

Amerika’s lack of attention and funding for it’s inner cities is laughable and sad. We cannot continue to make suburbs out of the countryside without serious economic, environmental, and social consequences. Unfortunately, it’s the poor people who live in the centres of our cities who are suffering the earliest of those consequences.

But if it’s local governments that are the problem, and the local governments are Democratic and blacks help voted them into office, then Beck is right. And if the lack of attention on inner cities is “laughable and sad”, and those cities are Democratic cities, and blacks help voted them into office, then that is even more reinforcement that Beck is right.

I think Beck would blame poverty on politicians who promise things to get votes but never deliver, or deliver with the “idiot policies” you refer to.
